Current markets & Industries
Sorghum Beer Industry – Gristly’s client in the Sorghum beer industry is the United National Breweries (UNB). UNB is a dominant producer of Sorghum beer in South Africa. UNB has three major brands, namely Chibuku, iJuba and Leopard Special.
Snack Industry – Gritsly supplies grit to companies in the snack industry, to produce products such as Niknaks and puffs which are consumed worldwide. Such big brands that have supplied snacks locally and abroad over several years are a stable market for grit.
Samp Industry – Samp is produced from maize kernels. Maize is a staple food for most of the people in South Africa (DAFF, 2013). Although Gritsly sells samp to clients in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Eastern Cape, there is great potential to sell to other regions given the status of maize as a staple in South Africa.
Maize flour industry – Given the growth in revenues and consumption seen in the biscuit industry, it is highly likely that there will be increased demand for Maize Flour in future, either from Gritsly’s existing clients or potential clients.
Maize meal industry – Maize is the major field crop produced in South Africa, and it is considered the staple food. Gritsly plays an important role in providing nutrition to the people of South Africa.
Feedlot industry – A feedlot is a type of animal feeding operation which is used in intensive animal farming, notably beef cattle prior to slaughter. Today the Feedlot industry is a flourishing industry that produces approximately 75 % of all beef produced in South Africa.
